The NGL Awards reward those who are making the most of technology in education and demonstrate to others what a difference technology can make to further and adult learning.

Last year Gas Street Works created all of the case study videos for the awards ceremony, and also this ‘bum settler’ graphics introduction for the event. This was designed to kick off the show with a bang and to build anticipation in the large audience of education sector professionals in attendance.

The visual cues were taken from the event branding as provided to us by the client. We worked with this by animating supplied photography and a suitable music track which ensured that the event was launched with a real bang.

ReviewSpace is a web collaboration tool that we developed in-house. It allows files of any format, including video, image and sound clips to be shared, organized and discussed, even if the person you’re sharing with doesn’t have the same software you used to create it.

We wanted to create a short snappy film which concisely explained the product and its benefits to just about anybody. So, we set about producing a film for ourselves.

James, one of our Producer/Directors, produced a script which demystified the product and communicated its features and benefits in plain English. He then got together with our graphics team to create animatics of the film, so we could all see precisely how it would flow on paper before the character animation started.

Once the script and storyboard was signed off, the graphics team produced this handsome video which we have used for successfully pitching at several networking events around the UK.

If you’ve got a product or service that you wish to communicate, drop us a line and we can have a chat about your ideas.

The BETT Awards are the prestigious annual recognition of excellence in educational ICT. Stringently judged, the Awards play a key role in identifying and rewarding innovative technological products and services that are proving to be effective in the education sector.

Mathletics was a 2009 BETT award-winning maths website which allows children to compete internationally in all aspects of maths. The school got into mathletics initially as a pilot and about two years ago they took it on full time. The kids absolutely love it, all of the children from nursery all the way up to year six get involved and enjoy the challenge.

What they found was that the children who were feeling insecure about learning and didn’t like to put their hand up because they may look silly or get the answer wrong – they felt very secure in front of a computer as the computer is not judging them. And although the teacher is the facilitator and directs the learning, the children engage with it whatever they are doing with growing independence.

Each of the digital media products reinforced the Ricoh Arena’s branding as a multi-purpose, world class venue offering state of the art facilities and services; a place ‘where opportunities are endless’.

The project above was just one element of our work with the Ricoh Arena, which also included an interactive tour available for use on the website demonstrating the wide range of facilities, activities and services.

The Community Crime Fighter programme has been created to forge stronger links between crime fighting and local government agencies and the communities they serve. Run by the Home Office, the programme offers training and skills to local volunteer activists to empower them to tackle anti-social behaviour.

The first Community Crime Fighter award winners were recently invited to Downing Street to collect their awards from the Prime Minister. Gas Street Works were commissioned to create a video for the event to celebrate their bravery and work in the community. The video will also be used to encourage others to take up the challenge of addressing problems where they live.

In 2009, one of our NHS clients held an awards ceremony to recognise the hard work and dedication that their staff had put into the organisation throughout the year. They had historically used photographs to present the nominees, but felt that this style was a bit uninspiring. The client had a very low budget, so we came up with a simple concept which meant that a large number of nominee films could be produced at very low cost.

Above you can see the nominees for one award, however we also produced nominee films for four other categories and a graphics template to introduce each film to the staff at the ceremony. The event was a resounding success and DVD copies of the films have been distributed to all those involved.
