The Community Crime Fighter programme has been created to forge stronger links between crime fighting and local government agencies and the communities they serve. Run by the Home Office, the programme offers training and skills to local volunteer activists to empower them to tackle anti-social behaviour.

The first Community Crime Fighter award winners were recently invited to Downing Street to collect their awards from the Prime Minister. Gas Street Works were commissioned to create a video for the event to celebrate their bravery and work in the community. The video will also be used to encourage others to take up the challenge of addressing problems where they live.

The West Midlands is the most congested area in Great Britain outside of London and demands on the transport network are rising each year. It has to cope with 6.9 million trips on a typical day. The vast majority of these trips are made by cars and lorries and only fifteen per cent are made by public transport.

This film was commissioned by a series of partners including Coventry City Council to generate debate on whether or not congestion charging should be introduced to the city.

It highlights key issues by featuring interviews with key stakeholders and members of the region’s business community.

Our researchers found 7 interviewees from Dudley, Coventry, Solihull, Sandwell, Wolverhampton, Walsall and Birmingham respectively, and filmed their opinions on key issues including transport, skills, employment, culture and community. The interviews were peppered with visuals from each city/borough relevant to the opinions being aired.

It is delivered by a working partnership of local government, probation, health, voluntary sector organisations, housing associations, support agencies and service users.

Cheshire County Council’s wanted to produce a video which showcased its services authentically to the public, partners and key stakeholders, using genuine people stories at its heart.

The result was a chaptered DVD illustrating how the programme is helping people in need throughout the county. The project showcased their work as a high quality, strategically planned, cost effective service which complements existing care services.

The Highways Agency manage England’s strategic road network, employing over 3,000 Traffic Officers across 7 regions. After a consultation exercise with disabled groups, recommendations were made to the organisation about how they can improve their service to disabled people.

Working closely with the Highways Agency, we produced this DVD to ensure staff know what their legal equality duties are and what they mean in working practice.

The DVD was not meant to provide a step by guide on how to deal with disability, but rather aim to change current practice through getting Traffic Officers to think through a number of issues when dealing with drivers and passengers with disabilities.

The key messages were:

Keep an open mind – dispel some of the misconceptions and challenge preconceptions that surround disability

Encourage active reflection

The golden 60 seconds are vital. During this time TOs must:

Gain rapport (don’t over compensate or withdraw)

Assess individual needs

Remember this is (just) a person (with a disability)

Remember these people are our customers

Coventry City Council wanted a powerful DVD that promoted a positive and proud image of the city’s history and future. It’s main use was to serve as a general, inspirational promotional tool for the city to use in various marketing and public forums. In addition, the DVD has been used specifically – with different edited versions – to promote key partnerships, such as bidders for the city’s ambitious Building Schools for the Future initiative.

Essentially the DVD will consist of four key sections:
- This is our city – its long history, its world-famous reputation and its positives as a city to live, work and invest in
- This is our City Council – introducing the council and it’s vision for the future
- Implementing the vision – an inspirational summary of the council’s vision for the future and a showcase of key developments that are already transforming Coventry into a city for the future.
- Introducing BSF and its transformation of learning in Coventry
