Managing Conflict is a series of audio and visual training films to help traffic officers and phone operators deal with difficult situations. We scripted, storyboarded and produced a series of dramatic re-creations so that officers could see just how their actions can have a direct influence on situations, and are given tips and advice on how to avoid conflict with members of the public.

The Highways Agency worked with City & Guilds to create a vocational qualification for its Traffic Officers. To support this we produced a promo to encourage sign up and used testimony to support key messages about benefits of the award.

Before moving into production, we conducted initial research with a sample group to determine resistance to the qualification enabling us to shape messages to tackle these. The result was a 2-minute video demonstrating the positive impact that the award has had on those who have completed it.

It was also used to launch the national awards ceremony in March 2008.

The Department of Health recently published six NHS-wide values which were developed through a series of conversations between those who work in the NHS and those who use it, about what really matters to patients, communities and staff across England.

The brief that we were given was to produce a series of interview films, however we knew that straightforward interviews would not engage the target audience. So, we came up with a motion graphics driven film style which stylised the content and made it both engaging and visually inspiring.

The result was the film that you see above, and this is now used at events, lives on the NHS Institute’s website and has been distributed on DVD to organisations and stakeholders.

The Highways Agency approached Gas Street Works to help make staff aware of the new initiative and provide initial training.

The result was this DVD, which delivered the key training messages through a highly engaging film. We utilised motion graphics to bring alive a printed ‘aide memoire’ that the Highways Agency have produced to support Traffic Officers carry out this new job function.

In 2009, one of our NHS clients held an awards ceremony to recognise the hard work and dedication that their staff had put into the organisation throughout the year. They had historically used photographs to present the nominees, but felt that this style was a bit uninspiring. The client had a very low budget, so we came up with a simple concept which meant that a large number of nominee films could be produced at very low cost.

Above you can see the nominees for one award, however we also produced nominee films for four other categories and a graphics template to introduce each film to the staff at the ceremony. The event was a resounding success and DVD copies of the films have been distributed to all those involved.

Anglian Water is one of the leading providers of water and wastewater services in the UK. Located in the east of England, their 3,500 staff serve the needs of around six million industrial, commercial and domestic customers.

The HR department approached Gas Street Works to produce a video which introduced their new SAP computer system. This change was fundamental to the organisation’s business processes, affecting billing and all aspects of customer interaction. Our film communicated the reasoning behind the new system and its benefits, appeasing staff resistance and ensuring a smooth and comfortable transition.

It’s essential that they deliver a consistent message about their role, objectives and ethos to new staff, which can be very difficult with a distributed workforce. We were approached by the HR department, to help communicate this information in a highly visual and engaging manner.

Our solution was to create a Highways Agency branded, motion graphics driven DVD featuring a personal welcome from the Chief Executive. It is presented to all new Traffic Officers on their first day.

When the organisation implemented a strategy for reducing energy consumption, they needed to disseminate the information to all of their staff in a highly engaging and relatable format.

Gas Street Works worked with Anglian Water’s HR department to produce a 15 minute DVD which was given to each member of staff to enlist their support.
